L’association Eau et Rivières de Bretagne a vivement réagit à la publication dans la presse d’une publicité pour le désherbant Roundup et a lancé sa contre-campagne. Voir les affiches dans cet article.

Monsanto fait la promotion de son Roundup. Et ce n’est pas du tout du goût de l’association Eau et Rivières de Bretagne. Le week-end dernier, les lecteurs de la presse régionale bretonne ont eu droit à une jolie demi-page colorée à la gloire du Roundup (ci-contre).

C’est la firme Monsanto, heureuse propriétaire de cet herbicide fort célèbre, qui reprend là son effort de campagne publicitaire qui lui avait pourtant déjà valu condamnation (appel jugé bientôt).

En effet, en janvier 2007, le tribunal correctionnel de Lyon avait jugé que : « l’utilisation combinée sur les étiquettes et emballages des produits herbicides pour jardins d’amateurs de marque Roundup visés à la prévention, des termes et expressions « biodégradable,« laisse le sol propre », « respect de l’environnement », « efficacité et sécurité pour l’environnement », […], peut laisser faussement croire au consommateur à l’innocuité totale et immédiate desdits produits par suite d’une dégradation biologique rapide après usage, alors que le glyphosate en constituant la substance chimique active, auquel il est ajouté un surfactant, l’amine polyoxyéthilène, présente une écotoxicité manifeste et ne se dégrade pas rapidement dans la nature, puisque selon les études effectuées par le groupe Monsanto lui-même, un niveau de dégradation biologique de 2 % seulement peut être obtenu après 28 jours. »

Avec ses nouvelles fiches vrai/faux, à destination des particuliers, Monsanto tente de valoriser son produit en insistant sur le confort et l’économie d’effort qu’il apporte.

Cette campagne massive a fait réagir Eau et Rivières de Bretagne, une association qui tente d’oeuvrer pour la qualité des eaux bretonnes dont on sait qu’elles sont déjà touchées par la pollution due à l’élevage intensif (notamment porcin) et qui n’ont vraiment pas besoin de plus.

Dans un communiqué du 02/05/08, l’association bretonne insiste sur le caractère choquant de cette campagne, « alors que le Grenelle de l’Environnement s’est fixé comme objectif de réduire de 50 % les quantités de pesticides utilisés en France, » et « alors que les collectivités bretonnes multiplient les actions pour lutter contre cette pollution et réduire l’usage de ces poisons … »

Et pour remettre les pendules à l’heure, Eau et Rivières de Bretagne lance une contre-campagne par la réalisation d’une fiche pastiche (voir ci-dessous).
